Who We Are.

We are a small graphic and web design studio based in Zagreb, Croatia.

The reason we started Stargazing Maps is because one evening we were watching the stars with our children and wished to remember this moment forever.

So we combined our passion with our profession.

We wanted to create art that was both beautiful and meaningful, as well as something people could cherish for years.

We also wanted to make a product that could be given as a thoughtful gift to the people you love, regardless of whether they’re male, female, young or old.

The stars are a beautiful and mystical thing, so we wanted to capture its beauty and give you a way to enjoy that beauty while also being able to express what makes those stars special to you!

The Science Behind Stargazing Maps

We use NASA Astronomical Data Centre star catalogue that contains information about planets, nearly 100 million stars, 10000 deep-sky objects, comets and asteroids. This data comes from past and present NASA planetary missions, astronomical observations, and laboratory measurements. Together with precise algorithms, latitude, longitude and the time provided by you we accurately recreate the sky view.

Astronomers have carefully studied and measured the position of the stars and the Earth’s annual orbital cycle. This enables them to calculate exactly which stars can be seen in different places around the world – or which will be visible in the future. We use this knowledge to create your personal and individual “starry moment”.

How Do I Know Your Star Maps Are Real And Accurate?

We take great pride in making sure our Stargazing Maps are accurate, because if they weren’t, then what’s the point? Right?

We’ve spent a lot of time working on the technology behind our Star Maps. We use data from NASA on the locations of all the stars and constellations and calculate the rotation of the earth on the day you chose. We then use the location to calculate what stars were visible from that place and time! You can verify our Star Maps by comparing them to Stellarium.org which is the same technology being used in Planetariums.

Why thousands of stars make all the difference

Stargazing custom star maps remain unmatched for accuracy and level of detail. Unlike some other star charts that only show major stars, our maps show 7,000 to 8,000 stars, the constellations and the Solar System planets. At any time of day or night, for past or future dates, anywhere on earth.

All the stars up to magnitude 7 that were visible in the sky at that moment in time above that precise location are plotted. Every tiny dot in your map corresponds to a star that was actually there. This is actually more stars than are visible to the naked eye, even on a clear night, with no light pollution. The Solar system planets, the Moon and the Sun are also shown. You can choose to display or not the constellations or the main star names.

Star Colours and Size Reflect What we See in The Night Sky

The colour of the stars on our star chart is not random, or chosen just to look nice: it is based on each star actual colour. Likewise, the stars are shown in a size corresponding to their magnitude. Sure, it would be easier to paint all the stars as white dots, as others do. But we want to give you the best.

The result? A stunningly beautiful starry sky. Because scientific accuracy and level of detail make a real difference.
